School suspended after death of student in ‘special training’
A PRIVATE school which admits using violence to correct students’ behavior has been suspended after a student died and another was severely injured last month.
Five suspects allegedly involved in the case have been apprehended by police and an investigation is under way.
The Guancheng District Education Bureau in central China’s Henan Province has revoked Boqiang New Concept Training School’s license, and asked the school to rectify problems, China News Service reported yesterday.
Two female students, 19-year-old Lingling and 14-year-old Xinxin, had been sent to the school in Zhengzhou by their parents because of their online addiction. They were forced to fall down on cement floors forward and backward, something teachers called “special training,” for two hours on May 19, police said.
Lingling was punished because she hadn’t reported a visit to the toilet, her mother said. She received a call at 4am on May 20 from a teacher who told her Lingling was in hospital, CNS reported. When she arrived at the hospital, her daughter was already dead.
Xinxin suffered head injuries, cervical vertebrae fractures and cervical spinal cord damage, according to the Zhengzhou No. 7 People’s Hospital.
CNS said the girl told her father a teacher forced her to keep falling on the ground and poured water into her mouth to keep her awake. She wasn’t told why she was being punished.
After the incident, the president of the school admitted that violence was used on students.
In advertisements, the school says it adopts a military style of management and specializes in treating problem students.
An education bureau official told a CNS reporter that the school was a legal and registered educational institute, but its management was poor.
