Schools suffer swine flu cases

THREE schools in southwestern China's Chongqing had reported 27 confirmed H1N1 swine flu cases by 9am yesterday, according to municipal health authorities.

No serious cases were involved, the emergency office of the municipal health bureau said.

The cases involve 15 at the Fengdu campus of Southwest University, nine at Xichan Primary School in Dazu County and three at Xinli Central School in Zhongxian County.

Xichan Primary School has been closed, Xinli Central Primary School has suspended classes involved and the Fengdu campus of Southwest University is under quarantine.

Meanwhile, by noon yesterday 67 people were confirmed to have contracted swine flu at four universities in Langfang City in northern China's Hebei Province, according to the provincial health department.

They included 36 new cases confirmed between noon on Saturday and noon yesterday.

Another 10 cases were reported in Mata Middle School in Jingyan County of southwestern Sichuan Province, an official with the provincial health department said late yesterday.

H1N1 flu outbreaks have also been reported at schools in other regions, such as the provinces of Henan, Shaanxi, Shandong, Hunan and Jiangsu as well as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
