Scientists Map Detailed Genome Map
CHINESE scientists have completed a detailed genome map of the giant panda, the State Forestry Administration said yesterday.
The mapping work was led by the Beijing Genomics Institute's Shenzhen branch, also a core participant in the giant panda's genome sequencing project finished in October 2008.
The research found there is a high genomic similarity between the giant panda and the dog, and it also supported the view of most scientists that "the giant panda may be a subspecies of Ursidae," the bear family.
