Sea lions beaten at zoo, scaring kids

SEA lions that were being used at a zoo to pose with children for pictures were beaten with a rod when they didn't cooperate, scaring the children, Dahe Daily reported today.

The incident took place at Zhengzhou City Zoo in Henan Province, the newspaper said.

Zoo staff members and a photographer pushed the sea lions to pose for photos with the children, charging 20 yuan (US$3.22) for each photo.

Uncooperative sea lions were beaten by zoo staff, the newspaper said.
