Search for madman who gouged out victim's eye
POLICE are searching for an attacker who gouged out his victim's eye and cut off his nose in a horrific assault on Friday in Guizhou Province.
Bank worker Wu Jiawu, 57, was attacked at around 5:30am as he walked to work in Guiyang City.
Wu underwent surgery on Friday but lost the sight in his eye, said the hospital where he was being treated.
The attacker, described by Wu as around 1.75 meters tall with long hair, was still at large yesterday. Police were interviewing witnesses in an attempt to get clues.
"My husband does not have enemy," said Jin Dabi, Wu's wife.
Wu said he was first hit on the head from behind with a beer bottle. As Wu held his head, his attacker gouged out his eye with his fingers and hacked off his nose with a piece of broken glass. Wu said he was also punched several times on the head.
Despite his ordeal, Wu, managed to call the emergency services and his wife. "He told me he was dying," said Jin, who rushed to her husband's aid.
A bus driver, who witnessed the assault while driving by, told police that it was the work of "a madman."
Wu's wallet and cell phone were left untouched.
