Search on for baby girl ‘stolen’ from her bed in Suzhou

POLICE in Suzhou, east China’s Jiangsu Province, have launched a citywide search for a 2-month-old girl thought to have been stolen from her home.

The child’s parents contacted police about 11pm on August 7, after finding their daughter missing less than two hours after putting her down to sleep, Modern Express reported yesterday.

The couple had earlier taken the infant to play at a kindergarten near their home in Jinxing village. About 9pm, the mother took the child home and put her to bed, while she went into the yard to prepare a bottle for her.

The couple’s 17-year-old son was in his bedroom next to the baby’s, his father Zhu said.

When Zhu got home at 10:45pm, his wife was watching TV in the living room. When he went to check on the baby, he found her missing, the report said.

After a frantic and fruitless search of the house and yard, the couple called the police, who launched an immediate hunt for the child and also took a DNA sample from the feeding bottle.

The mother told police that a new cellphone was also missing from the property.

According to her dad, the missing baby, who was born in June, is “very lovely and seldom cries.”
