Selfless-suicide girl's dad dies

THE father of a teenage girl who tried to commit suicide in order to donate her liver to her dad died on Saturday in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, a Nanjing-based newspaper reported yesterday.

He died one day after seeing his daughter for the last time.

"Linlin, dad misses you so much after so many days," said the man from his hospital bed. He had tears in his eyes after seeing his daughter in a wheelchair on Friday, said the Modern Express report.

Family members said the girl, knowing her father could die soon, was strong during their final conversation.

The girl was transferred to Wuxi No. 3 People's Hospital for further treatment to electric blanket burns suffered when she passed out after taking sleeping pills in an attempted suicide, the report said. Family members have not told her of her father's death.

Cui Lan, the girl's mother, thanked donors from all over China who had sent money to help the family pay its medical bills. She asked them not to give any more money as she thought they now have enough to pay what they owe.

The girl took more than 200 sleeping pills on February 4 in an attempt to commit suicide so she could donate her liver to her seriously ill father.
