Senior Guangdong official sacked for corruption

A ranking official in southern Guangdong Province has been removed from his position for serious violation of the Party disciplines, according to a spokesman of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Zhou Zhenhong, chief of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Guangdong Committee, is being investigated by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, the spokesman said today.

A source close to the investigators said Zhou has been placed under "shuanggui," a Chinese term meaning if a Party member is suspected of wrongdoings, he is asked to confess or explain at a stipulated place and time, according to Caixin.com.

Zhou's downfall was believed to be part of a sweeping anti-corruption campaign in the province that has already implicated a large number of Guangdong officials, including the former Party secretary of Maoming City, Luo Yinguo, reports said.

But the China's top disciplinary watchdog didn't confirm the allegations.
