Senior policeman detained in bribery probe

A high-ranking police officer in central China's Hunan Province has been detained for taking bribes worth millions of yuan, the provincial public security bureau said on its website.

Yang Jiannong, the bureau's deputy director-general, is now under investigation by local disciplinary authority for taking bribes from a real estate developer in Changsha, the provincial capital, the Beijing News reported Tuesday.

Yang's wife, Chen Ling, was led away by police on September 12 for her involvement in economic crimes. Yang's corruption case surfaced while police was investigating his wife.

"We have obtained solid evidence of Yang's corruption. The prosecutors have looked into Yang's case," the bureau said on the website.
