Serial killer executed in Guangdong

A SERIAL killer was executed yesterday in Guangdong Province for killing 11 people, raping a teen girl and robbery.

Cheng Ruilong, 37, who smiled when entering the court room, said he felt sad as his family didn't appear during an earlier hearing at Foshan Municipal Intermediate People's Court yesterday.

Cheng, a native of Lianzhou County, Guangdong Province, was convicted of multiple homicides, robberies, rape and extortion in six provinces in south and east China between 1995 and 2005, the court said.

Cheng broke into a businessman's house and extorted 200,000 yuan (US$29,920) from the man in 1995, the beginning of his crime spree.

Cheng, under various aliases and identities, killed 11 people including three policemen and committed five robberies when he was on the run. He was arrested in 2005.
