Serial killer shot dead by Chongqing police this morning

Zhou Kehua who killed nine people and injured five others in the past eight years was shot dead by police this morning in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, the state-run CCTV reported.

The 42-year-old fugitive was gunned down by a police sniper around 6:40am in the Tongjiaqiao area of Chongqing.

The cold-blooded killer, who was on the most wanted list of the Ministry of Public Security, shot nine people dead and injured five others in the past eight years in Chongqing Municipality and Jiangsu and Hunan provinces.

The latest victim was a Chongqing railroad policeman who tried to stop Zhou for questioning as Zhou was fleeing from the scene of his crime after he killed a woman and wounded two men last Friday in a robbery outside a bank.

Earlier police in Chongqing and neighboring Sichuan and Guizhou provinces were ordered to postpone holidays in an extensive manhunt for Zhou.

Police combed a mountain near Zhou's home and found his hideout in a cave.
