Serial killer's girlfriend gets 5 years in jail

The girlfriend of a serial killer who shot 10 people dead in eight years before he was gunned down last August was sentenced to five years in prison by a court in Chongqing this morning.

Zhang Guiying, 21, was convicted of harboring the killer Zhou Kehua after he shot a woman in the head in a robbery outside a bank on August 10 and killed a policeman on the run, the Shapingba District People's Court said.

The woman kept Zhou's robbed money of about 60,000 yuan (US$9,654) and was aware of his crimes. She even informed Zhou of police manhunt by phone until he was shot by two policemen four days later in Chongqing, the court said.

Zhang was given a five-year jail term and fined 10,000 yuan. She made no appeal at the court, the China News Service reported.

Her parents also heard the court ruling and refused to make a comment. Her father walked out of the court showing no sign of remorse and her mother even attacked photographers, the Chengdu Evening News reported.

Zhang met Zhou in April last year while she was working in a hair salon in Yibin City in Sichuan Province. Later they lived together and moved to Chongqing, the court said.
