Seven face charges over mall blaze
SEVEN people will be charged with negligence in connection with a shopping mall fire in northeast China's Jilin Province which killed 19 people and injured 24, according to the Xinhua news agency.
The manager of the mall at Huichun Street in Changchun, the provincial capital, four executives in charge of fire prevention, the electrical system and security, and two electricians will be held responsible for the accident in March last year, according to the People's Procuratorate of Chuanying District.
The blaze was triggered by a short circuit on the first floor. The electricians had allegedly cut off the fire control power supplies in error, and people could not escape because advertising boards had been placed over windows.
The fire blazed for 10 hours.
