Sex ring bribed cop with freebies

A PROSTITUTION ring that involved 54 people and revenue of 30 million yuan (US$4.4 million) escaped police attention for six years because it offered free sex service to a policeman in exchange for protection.

The head of the gang, Wang Aiguo, 54, of Beijing, hooked up with the anti-prostitution officer in 2007, Beijing Times reported without revealing the officer's name.

The gang is now on trial in Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People's Court.

Wang set up his first bathhouse in 2003 with his wife, and their business quickly expanded because every bathhouse he controlled offered sexual services.

Prosecutors said the ring earned 30 million yuan from over 30,000 transactions.

The police officer confessed that every time he went to Wang's bathhouse, the manager always assigned him the most beautiful girl and he never paid. He went to the parlor three or four times a week. In 2008, Wang bought him a car worth 71,500 yuan.

In return, the officer informed Wang before every police raid, the report said.
