Sex-change drug leads to baby's gender ambiguity

A woman gave birth to a baby with both male and female sexual characteristics recently as a consequence of taking a drug to ensure she conceive a boy, Henan Business Daily reported today.
The woman surnamed Ren in Zhumadian, central China's Henan Province was told by her mother-in-law to take the sex-change medicine when she was five months into pregnancy.
Doctors at the Henan Province People's Hospital determined the baby is female, but she suffers retarded sexual developmental.
Dr Liao Shixiu said a baby's gender is determined at the moment of fertilization. The drug Ren took contains a lot of androgen, which cannot alter the fetus' sex, only checks its sexual developmental, causes endocrine disorder in the mother, and even leads to her miscarriage if used in the early stage of pregnancy.
