Shaanxi landslide buries homes, at least 8 dead

AT least eight people are dead and about 44 are missing after landslide buried more than 10 homes in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, local authorities said today.

The landslide in Shaanxi occurred at 1:30 am today in Zizhou county of Yulin city.

As of 10:40 am, a total of 20 buried villagers had been rescued. Ten injured were taken to hospital, where three died.

Rescue efforts are continuing.

Another landslide in Xinjiang occurred at 8:30 pm yesterday in Kazak Autonomous Prefecture of Ili. The landslide buried one home and three people died at the scene.
