Shandong factory blast disrupts trains
AT least 48 train services were cancelled yesterday after an explosion at a factory near the Shanghai-Beijing rail line, the Beijing railway bureau said.
The explosion about 9:30am at the factory in Jinan, in eastern Shandong Province, sent fragments of the plant’s iron sheet roof flying through the air, damaging the railway’s power supply and causing an outage, Qilu Evening News reported.
The explosion occurred in a concrete workshop at the factory and the resulting fire was extinguished within 20 minutes. The cause of the blast is being investigated.
The damage to the rail line — between Jinan and Dezhou in Shandong Province was repaired by noon and operations resumed, although services experienced delays of 2-3 hours, the railway authority said.
Passengers on the cancelled trains can collect a refund online or at a rail station within 30 days.
