Shenzhen police bust 5-member drug trafficking gang

POLICE in Shenzhen, the city bordering Hong Kong, have busted a five-member drug trafficking gang in a raid.

The officers confiscated 16.09 kilograms of drugs, including 12.6kg of high concentration heroin. The total value of the drugs was estimated at about 70 million yuan (US$11 million), China News Service reported today.

The five suspects smuggled drugs from Vietnam through Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Shenzhen and sold them in Hong Kong.

Three of them belonged to a Mafia-style organization and all the five have criminal records in both the mainland and Hong Kong.

Shenzhen police believed their crackdown has battered the drug dealing network in Hong Kong, the report said.
