Ship escapees still missing
THIRTY-THREE Chinese people are still missing after 44 escaped from a tour group on a cruise trip to South Korea's Chejudo Island, Yonhap News Agency reported today.
A total of 44 Chinese tourists, 30 men and 14 women, ran away from the tour group after they arrived at Chejudo Island yesterday morning. Eleven have been found in two hotels and are being held by the police, while the remaining 33 were still missing, local police said yesterday.
They left their passports on the ship and might plan to find jobs in South Korea, an official with the island's exit and entry bureau said.
The Chinese will be deported after the police locate the rest of them, the police said.
They took a Costa Classica cruise ship departing from Shanghai with 1,311 people on board. The ship set out from the island to come back at 3pm local time yesterday.
