Ships return from Diaoyu Islands patrol
A PATROL mission that took four ships to waters near the Diaoyu Islands ended yesterday with the Yuzheng-204 patrol ship returning to Shanghai after conducting tasks with other law enforcement vessels.
The China Fishery Administration Bureau has included waters near the Diaoyu Islands in regular patrols since 2010.
The Yuzheng-202, Yuzheng-204 and Yuzheng-35001 arrived in the area last Wednesday. "The area is a Chinese traditional fishing ground where Chinese fishermen from coastal provinces including Fujian and Zhejiang have been fishing for generations," said mission commander Guo Shijun. The ships encountered Japanese Coast Guard ships and engaged in verbal confrontation with them, Guo said.
Meanwhile, Japan's ambassador to China has returned to Beijing after Tokyo summoned him over the weekend to discuss escalating tension over the Diaoyu Islands.
