Shy Taiwanese attempts group hug record
A 25-YEAR-OLD Taiwan man is trying to set a new Guinness World Record for group hugs by having more than 10,000 people hugging in the same place.
So far, more than 5,000 people have responded to his call and agreed to join the party on July 24 in a playground in his hometown in Taoyuan County, China News Service reported.
He said he got the idea from an American movie "Pay it Forward," in which a child helps three people who each forwarded the help to another three people, increasing the beneficiaries to 4.7 million in two weeks, he said.
He hopes the success could bring more confidence to his life because he was shy and "had no any accomplishments in academia, career or love."
According to the Guinness World Record website, the title is currently held by 9,700 people in Romania, who, on May 29, 2009, formed the largest group hug, circling the Citadel of Alba Iulia.
