Sick man likely ingested rat poison in meat from stall
A MAN who was thought to have eaten meat containing rat poison at a street-side stall in Beijing was being treated for an illness that caused his blood to fail to coagulate, the Beijing Evening News reported today.
The man, surnamed Wang, from northeast China, went to the hospital for a stomachache on June 30, but didn't recover following a series of treatments for urinary tract stones, the report said.
He was transferred to the Beijing Chaoyang Hospital on July 5 when bruising appeared all over his body, especially in his legs and bottom.
A blood test indicated the problem might have resulted from rat poison he appeared to have eaten with his food.
Wang told doctors he was on a trip in Beijing and usually dined in the hotels.
He recalled eating lamb at a roadside stall in downtown Beijing. Doctors suspected that instead, he had probably eaten rat, cat or dog killed with rat poison.
