Signal glitch halts Beijing subway, stranding many people
BEIJING Metro Line 1, the busiest subway in the capital, broke down this morning during rush hour when unstable power supply knocked out signals, stranding thousands of commuters.
Trains on the whole line paused after one train stopped at 8:13am between Junbo Station and Nanlishi Road Station, netizens said.
Many stations along Metro Line 1 had to close entrances and tell passengers to take bus or taxi. But stranded commuters were too many for buses and taxis to meet their needs. Many were late for work as a result.
Beijing's other eight subways were also affected by the accident of Metro Line 1, which normally carries more than 1 million passengers a day.
