Silkroad forum highlights vision of better future

REPRESENTATIVES from 13 countries including Panama, Mongolia, Myanmar, Serbia, Vietnam, Venezuela, Nigeria, Nepal, Jamaica, Dominica and Granada took part in a forum at Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences today to hold joint discussion for the cooperation in the Belt and Road initiative.

Zhou Hanmin, vice chairman of Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, reaffirmed the spirit of “cooperation, openness, mutual learning and win-win” in the construction of the Belt and Road during his speech at the 2017 First International Silkroad Development Forum.

Among the attendees there were also research fellows, entrepreneurs and deputies from social organizations.

Representatives exchanged their views on policy coordination, facilities connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people bonds to build the Belt and Road into a road of peace, prosperity, openness, innovation and connecting different civilizations.

Navil Lea De Frias Caballero from Panama told the forum that the Belt and Road Initiative is a global initiative and she is glad to see Chinese investment for new terminal in Panama.

The Chinese consortium Panama Colon Container Port project, invested by Shandong Landbridge Group and its partners, consists of two parts: the construction of a 2.5 million TEU container terminal and the development of additional real estate which could include liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities or other energy projects.

Representatives from Serbia and Mongolia also introduced corporations between their countries and China and expressed intentions to partner with more foreign countries in key sectors such as infrastructure, energy and finance.
