Singer denies affray charge
POP singer Zang Tianshuo went on trial yesterday in Beijing on a charge of gathering people for an affray.
Zang, 45, pleaded innocent in Beijing's No. 2 Intermediate People's Court. He was detained on September 28, 2008. Zang had a dispute with his partner Sun Baohe over a disco bar they owned. He ordered the bar's manager Lu Changchun to bring people to solve the dispute, according to the court.
Lu summoned almost 100 people who were armed with clubs, iron pipes and knives to join a fight with 20 others led by Sun on June 20, 2003. One man was killed in the fight.
Zang told the court he asked Lu to "solve the dispute," not to "beat people." But Lu said Zang told him to beat the opponents if the two sides failed to make an agreement.
The court did not reach a verdict.
