Sino-French relations progress

CHINESE President Hu Jintao and French President Nicolas Sarkozy have pledged to enhance relations and join forces to end the economic downturn and battle global climate change.

Their comments came during a meeting on Monday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Hu said his meeting with Sarkozy during the Group of 20 nations summit in London in April helped bring Sino-French ties back on ?¨the track of healthy development,? with increased high-level exchanges and a resumption of cooperation in a variety of fields.

All these developments have helped to build mutual political trust and boost cooperation between China and France in various areas, the Chinese president said.

Sarkozy said he was pleased to see the rapid development of bilateral ties, and he believed the relationship was progressing smoothly.

He stressed that the French-Chinese strategic partnership was important to France, and that the French were willing to join hands with the Chinese to enhance the future for both countries.
