Six arrested after foreigners robbed

SIX people have been arrested after two foreigners and two Chinese were robbed after an orienteering race in south China's Hainan Province.

Police in Sanya, Hainan, have issued a warrant for the seventh and last suspect, said the Sanya Public Security Bureau's Zhang Yunxu.

Of the six arrested, five are said to have taken part in the robbery in Nanxin Ranch in Sanya, and the other was arrested for disposing of the stolen goods. The robbery took place around 4pm on April 4, when a few people were left behind after the race. Two women in their 30s, one from Latvia and the other from Finland, a local woman resident and a male guide were the victims.

The robbers, on two motorcycles, seized the necklaces of the two foreign women, a mobile phone from the Sanya resident and injured the guide with a knife before taking his backpack containing cash worth US$4,700.

Police combed five villages in Hainan before seizing the six suspects.
