Six die after falling into well in Jiangxi Province

AN investigation has started after six farmers died after falling into a flood-prevention well yesterday evening at a farm in Leping in Jiangxi Province, China Central Television reported today.
A farmer, Peng Jin, reportedly went to pump water from the well, which is used to store excess water, in order to irrigate the crops. Peng climbed down a ladder to check inside after he was unable to pump any water from the well but fell off.
Five nearby witnesses rushed to try to rescue him but none of them returned.
The victims were dead by the time they were pulled out of the well, authorities said.
The cause of the deaths is under investigation.
