Six fired after knife attack wounds 23 kids

SIX people have been sacked after a knife attack in a rural school in central Henan Province wounded 23 pupils and an elderly man last Friday, Xinyang City officials said.

Min Yongjun, a 36-year-old epilepsy patient, reportedly broke into the village school in Wenshu County of Xinyang City on Friday morning and began to slash students in a frenzy associated the doomsday rumor.

The attacker has been arrested on charges of jeopardizing public security, officials said.

Following his arrest, Zhang Zongzhu, deputy principal of the school, and Wang Shengying, head of the Wenshu County Central Primary School, were removed from their posts, Xinhua News Agency reported today.

Also sacked were Wenshu County police chief, armed police chief, an education bureau official, and a police officer, Xinhua said.
