Six held after police raid counterfeit drug factory

Police in Jinan, Shandong Province, busted an underground workshop that produced fake drug made of pain killer and flour.

Six suspects who made fake capsules that were used in the treatment of diseases like bronchitis, pneumonia and rheumatism had been caught by police, Qilu Evening News reported yesterday.

The workshop at Tianjia Village in Duandian Town of Huaiyin District had made more than 7 million fake capsules since 2010 and sold them in  provinces like Heilongjiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou and Gansu.

They were worth about 6 million yuan (US$967,741).

The suspects smashed the painkiller into powder and mixed them flour.

They fabricated the production permit number of a Beijing and a Guizhou producer.

Police said they were yet to determine if the painkillers were genuine or fake.

The manufacturing cost for a bottle of 60 capsules was about 2 to 3 yuan. But they were sold in the market for 27 to 28 yuan, police said.
