Six law officers hurt in sulfuric acid attack

A COUPLE poured sulfuric acid over judges and police officers during an enforcement of court verdicts against them over business disputes in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, injuring six officers.

Two are seriously injured but now out of life danger after treatment, China News Service reported today.

One officer has 50 percent of his body severely burned and the other has 10 percent severe burns.

Judges and police from Changzhou District People's Court in Guangxi's Wuzhou City visited businessman Chen Hongsheng and his wife yesterday morning to enforce verdicts ordering the couple to pay back the money they owed to others.

But the couple resisted and suddenly poured sulfuric acid over the officers. They are now in detention.

The couple has been involved in many trade disputes filed to the court since 1996, according to officials. In six cases, they were ordered to pay back more than 300,000 yuan (US$43,930).

But they have always refused to follow the verdicts, officials said.
