Six plead guilty to two kidnaps

SIX fugitives have admitted kidnapping two students in separate cases in south China's Shenzhen City.

The two cases were heard yesterday at Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court, today's Shenzhen Evening News reported.

In one case, Kong Jinlin, a bus driver who made 3,000 yuan (US$439) a month, kidnapped the son of his friend surnamed Chen after owing money for gambling debts, the court was told.

He lured the boy into his truck on November 17 last year outside his school and took him home, where his roommate Huang Shengwen called Chen and asked for a ransom of 1 million yuan.

When the boy started shouting the next morning, Kong covered up the boy's mouth and suffocated him to death. That afternoon, Chen sent 100,000 yuan to Huang's bankcard and hours later Huang had a friend Huang Yiwen withdraw 20,000 yuan with the card.

Kong and Huang Shengwen were charged with kidnapping while Huang Yiwen was charged with concealing a crime.

In the other case, Shi Huabing, Du Mingjun and Zhang Zhizhong were charged with kidnapping a 14-year-old boy surnamed Mai on November 3 last year.

They called Mai's mother asking for 1 million yuan and drove Mai to central China's Hunan Province the next day, the report said.

They were caught in Shenzhen while trying to withdraw money and police rescued the boy.
