Six years in jail for bus blast
A MAN who detonated explosives on a bus in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, has been jailed for six years, China National Radio reported.
The Guangzhou Zhuhai District People's Court announced the verdict this morning.
Huang Xin, 26, a native of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, put a timer and explosives under a seat on the No. 125 bus at about 3pm on August 21, 2008.
The bomb exploded when the bus was traveling along Yanxiang Road about an hour later leaving a 23 by 12-centimeter hole in the bus. Fortunately, the driver and the only passenger aboard were not injured.
Huang was caught a day after the blast.
He has been found to be mentally sound.
He set off the explosion to vent his dissatisfaction at society for his unlucky life as well as using it as a threat to force a local newspaper to give him winning lottery numbers, the court heard.
