Slave case men punished

FIVE government officials were punished yesterday for abusing mentally ill workers in a factory in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, said the local government yesterday.

Li Zongxin, secretary of the Kumux Town committee of the Communist Party of China, received a serious warning from the Party.

Abduwa Haliq, head of the Kumux Town government, was fired, according to information released by the Toksun County government.

Yilihanmu Ablezi, deputy director of Toksun County Personnel, Labor and Social Security Bureau, was sacked.

The deputy secretary for politics and legal matters and the director of labor supervision in Kumux Town were also removed from their positions.

Li Xinglin, owner of Jia'ersi Green Construction Material Chemical Factory in Kumux Town of Toksun County, was detained by police for allegedly enslaving the workers. His son, Li Chenglong, was also detained.

Additionally, 12 mentally ill workers that Li Chenglong took with him were rescued.

The owner of a shelter in Sichuan, Zeng Lingquan, was detained for allegedly selling people under his care to the factory.
