Sleeping officials caught on video and fired

THREE county officials in central Hunan Province were sacked after someone posted a video clip showing them sleeping during a government meeting online. The video has drawn a tide of criticism on the Internet.
Two deputy directors of the Qidong County Justice Bureau and a senior government prosecutor were removed from their posts on Monday, the local Xiaoxiang Morning Herald reported today.
The video also showed other attending officials lolling in their seats and puffing smoke. It has attracted many clicks and angry follow-up comments on several popular Chinese websites.
Zeng Xiangyue, the Party secretary of Qidong County, said: "they damaged the image of the government and left bad influence on the society. We had a discussion and decided to fire them because they were no longer qualified for their positions."
