Smartphone users in China will have to register their personal details to use apps
MOBILE phone users in China will now have to provide personal information while registering for apps on the phone, according to a new regulation that came into effect today.
The regulation was first published on June 28 by Cyberspace Administration of China.
Users will have to provide personal data including mobile phone number or bank card information. The data will only be stored in the servers and users can still choose the display name they prefer.
The app service providers are also required to establish a mechanism to protect users’ rights and avoid the misuse of the data.
By the end of 2015, China had more than 600 million users surfing the internet on the mobile phones, accounting for more than 90 percent of China’s netizens, China Central Television Station said.
