Smog persists in east and north China
China's most enduring smog so far this winter is not expected to lift in central and eastern regions until December 8.
China Meteorological Center (NMC) has renewed a yellow alert for smog in central provinces and heavy smog in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces in the east.
From today till tomorrow morning, smog will reduce visibility in the provinces of Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, as well as the municipality of Shanghai.
China has a four-tier warning system for extreme weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
The smog is the most severe this winter, according to He Lifu, chief meteorologist with the administration. It started to accumulate over the weekend, and the NMC to issue the alert on Monday evening.
The good news is that a cold front with gale-force winds is expected to sweep China on Sunday and blow the smog away. Temperatures will drop by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius or even more from Sunday to Wednesday.
