Snake dancer detained by police for carrying 3 pythons

A woman carried three pythons and traveled from eastern Jiangsu Province to southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to mate them with other snakes but ended up in police custody for buying and transporting endangered animals.

The 38-year-old woman surnamed Long was found keeping the pythons in a hotel in Liuzhou City. One of the pythons was 3.7-meters long and weighted 17.5 kilograms, local police said.

Long, who earned a living by dancing with snakes, came to Liuzhou on July 25 to mate her female python after meeting breeders on the Internet. She also bought a python in Liuzhou for 3,000 yuan, China News Service reported today.

Because Long couldn't provide legal documents for breeding and transporting snakes, she was detained by Liuzhou police for buying and transporting endangered animals.

Her pythons have been sent to the Guangxi Wildlife Rescue Center, the report said.
