Social media not that social for young people: study
A NEW research published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine says that social media may not be that social for young people.
The study revealed that excessive social media use may lead to higher levels of perceived social isolation, according to the research team.
Participants of the study told the researchers their social media habits and feelings. Some admitted that they felt not so close with people around them.
The result of the study shows that participants with high usage of platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and so on considered themselves as more socially isolated.
However, the researchers haven't explained the causality of the issue. Do these young people feel isolated because of social media use? Or they just join in social media to get rid of the feeling of isolation?
The answer to this question may help combat some mental diseases and lessen the burden of isolation.
