Socialite faces jail over rapes
TAIPEI prosecutors yesterday asked for a 30-year prison sentence for Justin Lee, a millionaire's son and socialite who has notoriety for serial drug-induced rapes, Taiwan-based Central News Agency reported.
The 27-year-old Lee was accused of drugging and raping at least 28 women, including celebrities, film stars and models, and secretly documenting the sexual acts, since 2009.
"Lee has wrong values and has lost morality," said the Taipei District Prosecutors' Office.
His vile deeds did not come to light until two victims revealed their experiences in July 2011. But he was released by the Taipei District Court due to lack of evidence.
During a one-year investigation, police stumbled across large amounts of sexual videos involving dozens of women stored in his home computer. Besides, 93 explicit videos of a sexual nature and 176 nude photos suddenly began circulating on the Internet this summer, which sparked a media frenzy.
Lee was placed on a wanted list on August 1. Prosecutors and police tried hard to locate Lee by questioning his friends and family about his whereabouts, as well as blocking all possible channels of financial support to him, but the efforts failed to yield any clue.
Lee surrendered to police on August 23 after spending more than three weeks on the run. He denied the accusations, saying all of the so-called victims "agreed to have sex with me" and he never filmed the acts.
Justin Lee is the illegitimate child of Lee Yue Tsang, former director of Taiwan's Yuanta Financial Holdings Co. His mother never married the father.
