Some 200 staff members brawl at Beijing exhibition center
BEIJING police are investigating a brawl involving some 200 property management workers at the China International Hi-tech Convention and Exhibition Center, Beijing Youth Daily reported today.
The brawl happened at 4am yesterday at the center, as nearly 100 workers from a newly appointed property management company tried to kick out the former administrative staff, witnesses said.
Each said grabbed a fire extinguisher to use in the fight and they went after each other. More than 10 workers were injured, but none seriously, in the brawl, doctors said.
Workers were ejected from the center without coats and they shivered in the morning cold, witnesses said. A supervisor of the group rushed to the scene and handed out jackets.
Ambulances were called to send several injured people to hospital, but they refused and wanted to keep fighting.
With about 100 workers outside, some armed themselves with sticks. But police intervened and seized the would-be weapons, witnesses said.
Police were still at the scene yesterday afternoon to keep order.
The first and the third floors of the center were still in a jumble from the fighting and several exits were closed. People working inside the convention center had to show their identification cards to be admitted.
