Some scattered drops welcome, but not enough
TWO days of rain has fallen in parts of drought-stricken Guizhou, offering brief respite to the mountainous province in southwest China hit by the worst drought in 60 years.
However, there was still no rain in the western and southwestern parts of Guizhou, hardest hit by the disaster, the provincial meteorological bureau said yesterday.
The central, eastern and northern parts of Guizhou received rain in the 24 hours through 8am yesterday, with the highest fall of 113.7 millimeters in northern Fenggang County.
Local authorities have taken artificial precipitation measures to induce rain. They fired rockets with cloud-seeding chemicals into the sky at 168 sites in 46 counties of Guizhou.
And, fingers crossed, the bureau has forecast light rain for the whole province from today to tomorrow.
