Something fishy about project
AUTHORITIES in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, are facing public questioning for letting a firm blacklisted for safety loopholes to win a bid for a 1 billion yuan (US$150 million) urban project.
China Construction No. 3 Engineering Bureau Co won the project of Hangzhou Railway East Station on October 9 when it was suspended from bidding for any government-funded project for two months.
The firm was blacklisted on August 15 by the city's construction commission for a fatal worksite accident in which a worker fell to death when doing work on a government building in July.
The commission also found the company had problems in safety management, Economic Information Daily reported today.
