Something in anyone's language

A young translator has found himself in the spotlight for his assured performance at a press conference held by Premier Li Keqiang.

Sun Ning, a translator into English, received plaudits after Li's debut press conference as premier during the National People's Congress in Beijing on Sunday.

Sun, 32, impressed the public with his standard pronunciation and smart interpretation, especially of proverbs and ancient Chinese expressions.

The young translator was regarded as an outstanding English student even during middle school at Nanjing Foreign Language School, in his hometown of Nanjing in Zhejiang province.

He helped his teacher to edit an English story book and earned wide appreciations when only 17.

He has also won several English speaking awards, Xinhua-affiliated Modern Express reported.

Sun was recommended for admission in 1999 to his dream school, Beijing Foreign Studies University, to study English oral interpretation.

As a top student, he soon attracted the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was later recruited.
