Son combs 1,000 villages to find mom
A MAN has finally found his missing mother after walking through more than 1,000 villages in four provinces in the past 17 years.
Ban Yincheng, 30, took his mother Jia Shumei, 67, back to their home in rural Guangping County of Handan City, north China's Hebei Province, last week, today's Yan Zhao Metropolis Daily reported.
His mother raised four children alone after her husband died, Ban told the newspaper.
In 1993, Jia went alone to visit her mother's home in a neighboring village but disappeared.
Ban, who was then 14 years old, borrowed 22.2 yuan and started his journey to find his mother.
When he visited a place, he sold needles and took up odd jobs to raise money while gathering clues to his mother's whereabouts. He focused the hunt on small villages, where he thought he'd have more chance of finding his illiterate mom.
He walked through more than 1,000 villages in Henan and neighboring Hebei, Shandong and Shanxi provinces.
On July 6 this year, he went to Huangjiawan Village in rural Shijiazhuang City of Hebei and happened to meet his mother.
She said she had lost way 17 years ago and was helped by local people when she came to this village and settled down there.
