Space module launch set for Thursday
CHINA'S unmanned space module Tiangong 1 will be launched at 9:16pm on Thursday, Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center said.
The launch date is scheduled for Thursday due to favorable weather conditions and low wind speeds are forecast for the day, Cui Jijun, director of the Jiuquan center in northwest China's Gansu Province, told People's Daily today.
After the craft was sent into orbit, China would launch the Shenzhou 8 spacecraft on November 1, Cui told the newspaper.
If the launch of Shenzhou 8 goes well, China will follow it up with the Shenzhou 9 and 10 next year to take Chinese astronauts to the space lab – a milestone in the country's space development mission that will culminate in the construction of a space station by 2020.
Two female astronauts will be among the crew aboard Shenzhou 10, the report said.
