'Spectre' hits Chinese cinema with a splash

"Spectre," the latest 24th installment of the James Bond spy series began its Chinese release today. Despite the rain, ticket sales for the movie during its opening weekend has a robust beginning.

The film which stars Daniel Craig and Christoph Waltz is about Bond's efforts to uncover the global criminal organization Spectre. With a budget about 250 million US dollars, it is one of the most expensive films ever made. The movie also offers IMAX version in the city to present a more immersive viewing experience for its stunts and spectacular scenes.

Qian Zhijun, a manager of Yonghua Cinema said that they have sold half of the film's major afternoon and evening screenings over the weekend. Group ticket sales are also hot.

Many movie fans said that they have to buy tickets for prime-time evening screenings at downtown theaters several days ahead.

Online ticketing website Gewara.com has already sold more than 10 million yuan worth of tickets for the movie's screenings this weekend.

Later this month, movie buffs will be offered diverse styles of productions including adventure film "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" - the last installment of "The Hunger Games" series, crime comedy "Bad Guys Must Die” and sci-fi movie "The Martian."
