Speeding car kills pregnant woman

A driver crashed into four people in south China yesterday, killing three of them. One of the victims was pregnant.

The car appeared to be speeding in Guangzhou City when it first collided with two men, according to Guangzhou-based Southern Metropolis Daily today.
A witness surnamed Chen said the car was traveling at more than 80mph when the accident happened, New Express Daily reported today.

There was no sign of slowing down after the accident, said a witness surnamed He. The driver swerved and tried to escape at the same speed before then hitting another car.

The driver then accelerated and ran over two women on the pavement. He didn't stop until he was cornered in an alley, police said.
The driver, a man in his thirties surnamed Guo, was arrested.

One of the victims was Bin Xiaofang, a 29-year-old migrant worker. She was four months' pregnant, her husband, Peng Weimei, said.

Police said the driver was not under the influence of alcohol.
