Sports official under investigation

Pan Zhichen, head of China鈥檚 volleyball program, is being investigated for 鈥渟erious violations of discipline and law,鈥 the country鈥檚 anti-corruption watchdog said yesterday.
Pan is credited with helping to bring back former US coach Jenny Lang Ping, formerly China鈥檚 most illustrious spiker known as the 鈥淚ron Hammer,鈥 to lead the Chinese women鈥檚 program.
In June, the vice minister of sport responsible for basketball, Xiao Tian, was placed under investigation for corruption. Xiao was also one of basketball鈥檚 international governing body FIBA鈥檚 three vice-presidents.
