Stab spree man caught
POLICE in northwestern China's Shaanxi Province have captured a man suspected of killing two neighbors and injuring seven others in a stabbing rampage on Monday.
Song Lirong, 35, was seized yesterday morning in Zhangjiashan Village of Wubu County, in the city of Yulin, a spokesman with the count's public security bureau said.
Police escorted Song back to his home village of Songjiapo for questioning, the spokesman said.
The suspect is believed to have attacked his neighbors with a kitchen knife and an axe on Monday morning after a row with his wife that prompted the woman to leave for her parents' home.
A county government official said Song thought his neighbors had instigated the quarrel.
Song fled the site on a motorbike after the attacks.
All the victims of the stabbing spree were women and children as young as an 18-month-old boy.
Two women, aged 59 and 39, died. Most of the injured suffered head injuries, hospital sources said.
As of yesterday morning, six of them were in stable condition but a 20-year-old woman, Song Junqing, who suffered a skull fracture, was still in critical condition.
